WELCOME TO Fraternity Sports Club

Years Experience

Fraternity Sport, formerly known as The Fairy Meadow Club, has a proud heritage rooted in community spirit and sporting tradition. Established on land once known as Prior’s Paddock—a low, swampy area leased from the council—the original clubhouse was officially opened on March 18, 1958.

Over the decades, the club grew to become a valued hub for local sport, recreation, and social connection. In October 2024, The Fairy Meadow Club proudly amalgamated with the iconic Fraternity Club, ushering in a new era under the name Fraternity Sport.

Today, Fraternity Sport continues to honour its rich history while building a dynamic future for members and the wider community—promoting unity, wellbeing, and the love of sport.

HISTORY

In early 1952 a handful of Italian migrants who had come to make a new life in Wollongong decided to form a social club: a place where members could relax, enjoy each other’s company and benefit from their pooled resources.

The club was officially opened on the 29th August, 1953 with a gala ceremony, under the name of The South Coast Social & Fraternity Club.

The opening of the club was the forerunner of many days and nights where the members could indulge their passion for good food, dancing, and conversation with family and friends. The club was also a central meeting place where opportunities for work were discussed and assistance for new arrivals was provided.
